ABOUT US
When Warren Gaskell began writing songs for the band he was putting together, he had no idea the line up would end up an eight piece group of musicians with a common core direction and discipline. Country, roots and Americana are all at the centre of the band's instincts, and right at the forefront of everything stand the songs themselves. "As a band we’re focussed on following ‘the song’ and making it honest and real”, says Warren, (vocalist/guitarist.)
“There is a huge collection of musical experience and expertise in the band”, says Peter Troughton-pedal steel/guitar. He goes on to say “The band draws as much inspiration from the likes of Chris Stapleton and Blackberry Smoke as we do from classic stuff like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Williams or Whiskeytown”. The extensive line-up of the band enables The Beautiful Failures to explore the Southern vibes they enjoy playing so much, whilst at the same time having the traditional country influences and nuances that instruments like banjo and pedal steel bring with them.
“Our debut album is something we’re proud of”, says drummer Steve Braithwaite. “The album has all the light and shade that every good one should have. The upbeat songs and the sensitive ones. A good album
should start strong, end strong and give you twists and turns in the middle, just like a good live show does".
Songs like ‘Santa Ana Calling’ encompass all the elements that create the band's signature sound. While it has all the sensitivities of a ballad, it finishes strong, creating both contrast and dynamics. Warren Gaskell comments “At the end of the day, as a band we want to tell stories and create moods that take people to places they feel comfortable with”, he goes on to say, “Each song I write begins life as a few simple chords and a vocal. From that point onwards we craft and shape each track to where the band feels it needs to go. It’s that simple and that’s what makes it honest. It’s a little like creating the perfect dish, you have to know what ingredients you need to add and when to stop”.
The band has plans for further releases. Some live projects and some studio ones, but the priority for the short term is getting out there and playing to live audiences who want to experience each of these tracks in a live situation. See you at the next gig!
"Santa Ana Calling is washed in a beautiful bittersweet sunset that feels like the credits are about to roll on a coming-of-age film in California".
